UX vs CX: No PhD Required for This Simple Explanation!
Everyone in the innovation business is talking about UX and CX.
Here is a super simple explanation of the difference between UX and CX:
UX stands for "user experience." It refers to how a person feels when using a product or service. UX designers focus on making products easy and enjoyable to use. So UX is just about the experience a person has while using a product.
CX stands for "customer experience." It looks at the full journey a customer has with a company. CX involves all interactions a customer has before, during, and after using a product or service.
The main difference is that UX focuses on the user's interaction with the product itself. CX looks at the broader relationship between the customer and business.
Good UX design improves CX. If a product is hard to use, it creates a bad customer experience in the end. Easy, enjoyable UX creates a better CX.
But CX is more than just UX. It also includes things like:
- Advertising and marketing
- Sales and customer support (which is my focus area, I help sales teams create a fantastic relationship)
- How the product is packaged and presented
While UX focuses on product use, CX includes the full experience around it.
The two work together to create happy customers!
