From Corporate to Freelancing: Find Your Positioning with Help From AI
In the last few weeks, I've had the privilege of coaching many professionals moving from the corporate world to the new world of self-employment in innovation, facilitation, or coaching.
What did I discover?
Despite their diverse backgrounds and cultures, they all faced a common hurdle: finding their positioning.
As generalists—whether you're a workshop facilitator, innovator, or coach—you have the potential to assist virtually any business. However, the real challenge lies in finding a positioning that not only aligns with your skills but also meets your future clients' unique needs precisely.
And I'll be blunt: being a "generalist" is a recipe for freelancing frustration. I also went through this pain when I left the corporate world.
But There's a Solution: Finding Positioning with AI
Here's how you can find your positioning with a little help from AI:
1. Identify Your Niche
Instead of being everything to everyone, focus on ONE specific industry or business type.
Here's how AI can help:
Ask: "Give me 10 business niches related to [your expertise]."
Example: I have run hundreds of Innovation Workshops using the Double Diamond format for countless companies. Let's see what Gemini 1.5 Pro suggests.
Use the prompt "Give me 10 business niches related to double diamond workshops" in claude.ai or gemini.google.com.
2. Understand Their Pain Points
Go beyond simple issues and uncover what truly keeps your future clients up at night. What specific problems can you solve?
AI can help:
Ask: "Generate 5 common pain points for businesses in [your niche] that could be solved using [your skills]."
Example: "Generate 5 common pain points for businesses in the education industry that could be solved with double diamond workshops."
3. Create An Irresistible Offer
Don't just offer coaching services or workshops – provide targeted solutions for their biggest pain points. AI can help you package your expertise into irresistible offers:
Ask : "Create the go-to solution for [client pain point] in [client industry] using [your skills]"
Example: "Create a very strong offer for Declining Enrollment & Retention in the education industry using Double Diamond workshops using Alex Hormozi's offer framework"
Remember: Focusing on a small niche makes you MORE valuable, not less. When you're the expert in solving a specific, pressing problem, clients will line up at your (virtual) door.
Still struggling to find YOUR perfect niche? You're not alone! Many freelancers face this challenge. But don't worry – I'm here to help you become the go-to expert your ideal clients are desperately seeking.
