A group of friends at a coffee shop

What do you think is the optimal group size when trying to come up with new ideas? Research has shown a surprising conclusion that performance gets worse as group size increases: groups of nine generate fewer and poorer ideas compared to groups of six, which do worse than groups of four.

These results show that brainstorming groups are the worst way to come up with good ideas. Optimally we always should start generating ideas individually.

If you have talented and motivated people, they should be encouraged to work alone when creativity or efficiency is the highest priority.
